Welcome to the Fulweiler Lab

Biogeochemistry and Ecology along the Land-Ocean Continuum

The Fulweiler lab focuses on biogeochemistry and ecosystem ecology from the watershed to the ocean. We are particularly interested in how anthropogenic changes effect the ecology and elemental cycling of ecosystems on a variety of scales (i.e. local - nutrient loading; regional/global- climate change). Current research is centered on the transformations and the ultimate fate of nitrogen in the marine environment,  the impact of climate change on benthic-pelagic coupling, and the environmental controls on greenhouse gas emissions in coastal systems.

We work in coastal waters throughout New England, the wetlands and tidal flats of Plum Island Sound, and the wetlands and coastal embayments of Louisiana. In doing so we work closely with collaborators at other universities. Please take a look at our research page to learn more about our projects. Wally welcomes undergraduates into the lab. Please contact me if you are interested in working in the lab as an undergraduate, graduate student, or postdoc.
